Jedburgh Half Marathon
Hogg & Thorburn are entering a team in the Jedburgh fun run on Sunday 25th October 2009 to raise money in support of the BGH Kidney Dialysis Appeal. Launched on World Kidney Day, 12th March 2009, the appeal aims to raise £120,000 to assist patients undergoing dialysis at the newly expanding haemodialysis unit at the Borders General hospital.
The unit is undergoing major expansion to create a self contained unit, doubling the size of the existing bays from six to twelve and offering a maximum capacity of 72 patients. Due for completion in summer 2011 the project will also create additional treatment and consultant rooms and a dedicated nursing station and patient waiting area. Chairman of the appeal and partner at Hogg & Thorburn, James Marjoribanks said: “At present many patients have to go to Edinburgh for dialysis which adds considerably to the strain they and their families are already facing. It’s wonderful that more patients in the Borders will now be able to receive their treatment locally and in a purpose built facility, and I’m delighted that my colleagues are taking on such a challenge to support the appeal!”
Head of the tax department at Hogg & Thorburn Kenny Adamson is organising and encouraging the team. He is running the half marathon with colleague Lynsey Ross who is only recently back form maternity leave. James Marjoribanks and Pam White are both taking on the 10k which is a new addition this year at the Jedburgh event. Chartered Tax Advisor and partner Kenny Adamson said: “There are twenty of us in the firm and we all work really well as a team but this sort of challenge is quite different. We are training together and hope that those who are not running will come and support us on the day. Knowing we are doing it all for such an important local cause helps motivate us all.”
